FOUNDER & CEO
Sanjay Gala spearheads SMARTe Inc., as the Founder and CEO, is his second venture as an entrepreneur. A Sales and Marketing industry veteran, Sanjay’s passion for innovation drove him to bootstrap SMARTe.
Initial forays into software programming helped him explore the limitless realms of technology. He started SMARTe where he deployed software solutions to automate sales and marketing data management and provide operational excellence embedding state-of-the-art technologies, research expertise and best practices. Today, he knows this industry in and out, and recognizes the strategic impact it has on businesses and organizations.
Before founding SMARTe, Sanjay was VP at Verticalnet, where he managed the Western Region Sales. This stint was a follow-up to a successful entrepreneurial venture at an Enterprise Software start-up company, Zycus Inc. As the Cofounder and Executive VP at Zycus, Sanjay built and managed field sales, business development and marketing operations. He was instrumental in building a profitable company and grooming it to a 125 people strong company before moving on. Earlier in his career, Sanjay has worked in several Networking and Semiconductor start-ups. Sanjay holds a MBA degree from Golden Gate University, San Francisco and a Masters in Science from OSU, Stillwater.
Vice President, Products
Parul Gala is responsible for Product Development at SMARTe. She has a proven record of accomplishment and a passion for the web and internet technologies in design, development and managing web related projects. Parul combines her technical expertise, people management skills and process oriented working style to deliver high value add to the business solutions and customers.
Parul has extensive work experience as Web Developer and UI Developer with start-ups like Chingari and Connexus Corp, also large corporate like Agile software and PayPal. Parul holds a Bachelors degree from University of Mumbai and Computer programming associate from De Anza College, Cupertino.
VP OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT – EMEA AND APAC
Samrat currently is responsible for the Business Development and client relationship management for the EMEA and APAC region. Samrat has over 10+ years of experience in international business development, research and knowledge process outsourcing.
Prior to joining SMARTe, Samrat was in charge of European business development at Datamatics, a knowledge process outsource providing research, market intelligence and analytics services to the publishing, media, online media community, etc. In addition to Datamatics, Samrat has previously worked with GE Capital, Vendor Financial Services and Cheers Interactive as Business Development Manager. At Cheers, he played a critical role in growth of company from a startup stage to multi-million dollar revenue and 170 persons. Samrat is a commerce graduate from Goenka College of Commerce and Business Administration, Calcutta University and an MBA from Institute for Technology and Management, Mumbai.
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Jiten is an engineering graduate from University of Mumbai with over 10 years of experience with enterprise product development and software consulting spanning across multiple industry verticals and geographies. At SMARTe, Jiten is currently leading a team of bright, young software professionals, to develop suite of products ranging from SAAS application facilitating custom list research to machine-learning based systems to mine, classify & extract information for sales/marketing intelligence from the World Wide Web. He has worked with a wide array of technologies and has been engineering robust, extensible, and efficient software systems. Outside of work his interests include reading & travelling.
SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER – ALGORITHMS
Bharat works along with a team of young and bright Software Engineers to improve SMARTe’s automated crawling, classification and extraction suite of algorithms. He has around 14 years of experience in academic research, 2 years of experience teaching students at bachelor and master levels and nearly 4 years in industry. His research interests mainly focus on Natural Language Processing, AI Planning, Machine Learning and Big Data. He has completed his M.S from IIT Madras and is working towards his PhD thesis. His other interests include solving real world problems, following scientific research in pure sciences, sports, politics, entrepreneurship, startups, cribbing about the status quo and attempting to see the funny side of life.
Dan Roth is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and the Beckman Institute at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a University of Illinois Scholar.
Roth is a Fellow of the AAAI, AAAS, ACL, and the ACM, for his contributions to the foundations of machine learning and inference and for developing learning centered solutions for natural language processing problems.
He has published over 250 articles in machine learning, natural language processing, knowledge representation and reasoning and learning theory, and has developed advanced machine learning based tools for natural language applications that are being used widely by the research community and commercially. Roth was the program chair of AAAI-11 and of ACL-03 and is currently the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research (JAIR).
Roth has co-founded several start-ups in the Text Analytics and Natural Language Processing areas, and is consulting with several small and large companies in this area. Professor Roth received his B.A Summa cum laude in Mathematics from the Technion, Israel and his Ph.D in Computer Science from Harvard University in 1995.
